Project Description

Reading Borough Council - Ridgeway Primary School

Value: £542k
BRIEF SCOPE

We embarked on a four-month project to transform The Ridgeway Primary building and its facilities into a satellite for Thames Valley School catering to students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Our primary focus within the main building was to renovate and create new accommodation, which encompassed installing new flooring, junior restrooms, a changing room, an access-controlled external door with fireguard, updated lighting fixtures, low surface temperature radiators, and new decorations.

The external enhancements involved the installation of porous tarmac and Type 3G synthetic pitch, along with the construction of an external ramp and canopy, complete with safety padding for all ramps and railings. Access control was also added to the external gates.

In the modular building, we renovated and built new spaces, including a reception area with a fire curtain, waiting and meeting rooms, staff room, a kitchenette equipped with white goods, new internal fire doors, and upgraded the intruder and fire alarm systems, as well as new lighting and decorations throughout.

External work included the removal of shrubbery surrounding the building and from the roof. Significant groundwork was necessary to level the uneven terrain and re-tarmac the area. This phase also required relocating the air conditioning condenser units and constructing two ramps.

Additionally, we developed an external play area featuring astroturf, a sunken trampoline, picnic benches, and a canopy. New fencing with timber slats was installed around the perimeter of the building, along with five external gates equipped with access control.

Finally, we created a new car park for the school, complete with line markings.
